A look at international films shown in U.S. art house cinemas from 1945 to 2000, with a special focus on the role of music in shaping their impact and reception.
Emerging in the mid-20th century, art house cinemas played a pivotal role in introducing American audiences to the works of directors such as Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa, and Federico Fellini, leaving a lasting impact on the development of American film culture.
With special introductions for all screenings by Todd Decker, Professor of Music and Film and Media Studies at Washington University.
