Brewster McCloud (35MM)
Director: Robert Altman Run Time: 105 min. Format: 35mm Film Release Year: 1970
Starring: Bud Cort, Michael Murphy, Sally Kellerman, Shelley Duvall, William Windom
Brewster is an owlish, intellectual boy who lives in a fallout shelter of the Houston Astrodome. He has a dream: to take flight within the confines of the stadium. Brewster tells those he trusts of his dream, but displays a unique way of treating others who do not fit within his plans.
“We get the sense of a live intelligence, rushing things ahead on the screen, not worrying whether we’ll understand…. I wonder if the movie isn’t primarily style; if Altman doesn’t have a personal sense of humor and wants his directing style to reflect it. One could, of course, get into a deep thing about birds and wings and freedom, but why?” —Roger Ebert
