A mysterious stranger rides out of the shimmering desert and into the isolated mining town of Lago. After demonstrating his deadly skill with a gun, he is hired by the frightened townspeople to protect them from three vicious outlaws returning from prison. Given virtually unlimited authority to prepare Lago for their arrival, the Stranger begins reshaping the town according to his own unsettling designs. But as his plans grow increasingly bizarre—and the town itself is painted blood red—it becomes apparent that his arrival may have as much to do with vengeance as protection.
