Insurance investigator John Trent (Sam Neill) is hired to track down missing horror novelist Sutter Cane, a phenomenally successful author whose terrifying books have inspired an almost fanatical following. Trent’s search leads him and Cane’s editor to Hobb’s End—a supposedly fictional New England town that shouldn’t exist.
