When recently divorced Lucy Emerson (Dianne Wiest) moves with her teenage sons Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) to the seaside California town of Santa Carla, they quickly discover there’s something strange about their new home. Michael becomes fascinated by Star (Jami Gertz), a mysterious young woman connected to a charismatic motorcycle gang led by the menacing David (Kiefer Sutherland).

After Michael is drawn into the gang’s nocturnal world, Sam begins to suspect his older brother is becoming a vampire. With the help of self-proclaimed vampire hunters Edgar and Alan Frog (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander), he sets out to save Michael before his transformation becomes permanent. Joel Schumacher combines Gothic horror, teenage rebellion, comedy, and a killer ’80s soundtrack into one of the era’s quintessential vampire movies.
